About the Book
Book Description
This book is for anyone experiencing alcoholism or drug abuse who is curious about recovery—whether sobriety is just a concept at this point or you are already far along on your recovery journey. Let me say at the outset, this is not meant to be a definitive guide. It is intended as suggestive and explanatory. Many of the people who read this book are trying to become sober from drugs and alcohol. They might also be wondering what sobriety is and thinking about whether they want to be sober.
My goal in writing this book is to inform readers that sobriety is possible. Getting and staying sober takes continuous effort, focus, and work. But it’s definitely worth it. Sobriety helps you live a better life, have better relationships with those you love and who love you, and have a chance of accomplishing your goals. The alternative is to continue using drugs and alcohol, which results in mental, physical, and emotional problems, and will result in disappointing yourself and others (and also in having a lot of problematic medical issues and dying early).
The text is based on my life’s story and, more to the point, 40 years of sobriety and how the God of my understanding has cared for and protected me during my life, a realization I came to through the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. My hope for you is that you find a way to live in peace and to live as good a life as possible—we can’t ask for anything more.
